I like to eat my sandwiches when I don't feel like preparing food at the moment. Since this occurs fairly often, I'm wondering if I can make around twenty sandwiches and leave them in my refrigerator. How long will ham/cheese/mayo sandwiches last? Any tips for making them last longer?

EDIT: My roommate recommends saran-wrapping them.

According to stilltasty.com, 2-3 days in fridge, 1 month in freezer. Definitely freeze them if you want them to last more than a couple of days. However, freezer burn can be a significant factor if not properly sealed, and they will dry out in that time, leaving their texture/flavor potentially undesirable.

EDIT: Removed layman speculation. Sorry, I'm new!

I would think it would depend on how they were wrapped, the temperature of the fride, and how often you opened the door. Have you tried freezing them? Not sure how it would work, but those Smuckers frozen PB and J's are pretty awesome from the freezer. You'd want to let them thaw for 30 mins though, not sure if that's what you're looking for.

This is highly dependent on the methods of preparation and storage, as well as the products used before hand. I will outline why each is important.

Methods of preparation: If you wear new latex gloves, cut/distribute the products with a sterilized knife on a disinfected cutting board in a dry, cool environment with a face mask on, you will have reduced the chances of bacterial contamination from an outside source. Be especially careful to use a different, thoroughly cleaned knife for the mayonaise. There was an E. Coli epidemic linked to mayonaise in 1993

Quality of the products: Many products have preservatives, which are molecules that can prevent degradation of the foods as well as stave off contamination. Many breads have anti-fungals present to delay the onset of bread molds. Some products do not have these ingredients. Since your goal in the impervious sandwich, it would be best to choose sandwich products with these ingredients. Sourdough bread could be a good choice for bread since fungal contamination was not found for at least 28 days. You should be careful with what kinds of meat, cheese, and mayonaise you use as some strains of very dangerous bacteria could pose a serious health threat. Botulism is no joke.

Storage: Ideally you want them to be stacked individually in a thoroughly sealed container and then refrigerated. Saran-wrapping them before putting them in a thoroughly disinfected tupperware container will be helpful too. If your refrigerator is contaminated (more than likely) all of the preparations beforehand are useless and you can't keep the sandwiches for more than 2-3 days at most.

Technically since this thread could be considered preventative medical advice, we shouldn't be suggesting you to do anything. Yet, I can't help but ask: why you don't have the time to make yourself sandwiches as least once every other day?
