I had actually the an excellent fortune of being in Honduras on November first and El Salvador on November 2nd. This enabled me to get a glimpse right into Dia del Muerto in both places.

You are watching: Dia de los muertos en honduras

Although nobody celebrates Dia del Muerto choose the Mexicans, it was still amazing to see how the Hondurans and also El Salvadorans perform it. Basically, it’s a day invested with family and the tombs of fallen loved ones space decorated.

In general, ns love the idea and social attitude of celebrate life instead of mourning loss. These two days are the culmination of this awesome and also unique cultural difference.

Honduras

On November 1st, every Saints Day, I was in Nacaome, Honduras in the morning before heading back to El Salvador. I had completed my 2 days volunteering v Cape Cares medical Brigade and also paid a visit come the Nacaome cemetery prior to leaving.

There wasn’t lot happening as the big day is November 2nd, however I take it a look at nevertheless.

Yes, it felt monster walking approximately a cemetery through myself acquisition pictures. Yes, human being noticed and thought it to be weird/funny.

One cool point was this violinist and guitarist play music. I don’t know if castle were available for rent to perform for family members in the cemetery or if they were members that the family shown. Either way, the audience doesn’t seem as well interested!

Food and Drinks exterior The Cemetery

By the time we left, it remained in the 90’sF for sure with a terribly extreme sun. Rene’s wife, Sandra, stated rain was more than likely on its method because it was so hot – the there must be a high push front top storms. Later on in the job it walk rain. Impressive!

Rene’s wife is indigenous Yoloaiquin and has family hidden in the cemetery. She met up with uncles and also cousins and also helped decorate the graves of their fallen family members.

I walked around and took pictures and hung out through the kids.

To be honest, ns didn’t like the coconut milk really much. I didn’t like the within edible part either. Yet it to be ok and also it to be so warm I was prepared to drink anything. And you can’t beat the show in opened the coconut and also then pouring the milk!
